Women's 50s Fitted Sheath Dress Vintage Silky Blue Green Print M/L VFG McArthur
This is a striking and beautiful dress, which I am dating to the late 1950s. The fitted bodice is styled with a narrow shawl collar, and cuffed kimono sleeves. The front bodice placket is accented by two downward pointing "arrows". The straight skirt is fitted at the waist front with angled pleating that echoes the shape of the angled inset hand warmer pockets. There is a short kick pleat at the center back hem for ease in walking. The dress is shown in one photo with a metallic belt from my closet - the belt is not included with purchase.

FABRIC/COLORS: A gorgeous print in that blue/green colorway that was so trendy in the late 50s, using several shades of each - some rich and saturated, others muted. The print is - at first glance - vaguely floral with a geometric crosshatched background. But if you look more closely at the large roundish floral motifs, many of them have intricate drawings and patterns within. The fabric itself is lightweight, silky to the touch with a bit of crispness. A fiber burn test suggests that it is a synthetic.

CLOSURES: The dress closes in front - there is a hidden snap at the base of the neckline, then two pearly plastic faceted buttons, each with a rhinestone at the center. There is a black enameled hook & eye at the waist, followed by two more snaps to secure the short placket below.
CONDITION: No stains, holes, tears or other issues noted.
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
