Women's 50s Dress Party Vintage Black Chiffon Full Skirt LBD Silk Small to Medium VFG
A lovely little dress, so beautifully designed and made that I could believe it was couture! The princess seamed bodice is boned to give it structure - the camisole neckline has a soft cuff and a trio of spaghetti straps for each shoulder. The wide satin waistband is appliqued onto the dress - it's strictly horizontal in back, then rises gradually in front, angled ends wrapping in the midline, creating a clever notched look that suggests an empire waist. The skirt has three layers, an inner crepe skirt that is flared but insets smoothly into the waist, and two outer layers of chiffon that are smooth in front and then gathered on the sides and back, with enough fullness to qualify as a circle skirt.

FABRIC/COLORS: The dress is made with several different black fabrics, primarily an inner layer of lightweight crepe and outer layers of chiffon - both silk according to a fiber burn test. The cummerbund detail is a heavier weight matte satin and the bodice is also lined in finely woven black muslin.
TAGS: No tags found, but made at an excellent skill level.
CLOSURES: Long metal zipper down the back. There are also snaps and hooks & eyes down the back placket to keep it laying flat. The inner waist has a petersham ribbon for strength that fastens with a hook & eye.
CONDITION: The satin spaghetti straps have turned color a bit - they have a slight reddish cast. No stains, holes, tears or other issues noted.
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
