Sleeve garters are a great accessory to add a bit of pop to your outfit without being ostentacious - do a quick internet search for "David Beckham sleeve garters". They are usually positioned just above the elbow. They were worn by most men from the 1850s to the mid 20th century. Men's shirts came in one sleeve length - extra long, and the garters allowed the wearer to adjust the placement of their cuffs to the correct position under a jacket. They were also useful for preventing your cuffs from getting soiled while working at a desk. The traditional sleeve garter bears minimal resemblance to the images in our heads of Dixieland Jazz musicians or Wild West gamblers.

SIZE: The garters are 5/8" wide. Length is adjustable with sliders. At rest they are 4.75" with 3.25" of overlap, plus they will stretch.

FABRIC/COLORS: Striped maroon and navy blue with a thin white pinstripe between. Elasticized, with a dry hand.

TAGS: Esquire. There is also a price sticker from a store called Spencer's for 49 cents

ADJUSTERS: Silvertone metal

CONDITION: These are Deadstock, and came to me on the maker's card. The card bent and ultimately broke during the evaluation process - it will be included with purchase. The garters are untouched, with no stains, tears, or other flaws. Their elasticity seems fine.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
