Vintage 20s Evening Cape Silver Lamé Flower Collar Women's Silk Velvet Cocoon Coat VFG
A lovely 1920s evening cape, elevated from basic by the large collar adorned with four-petalled flowers, each petal backed in silver lamé that peaks around the margins. The flowers have metallic thread pistils and filaments, adding another subtle touch of charm. The cape is fully lined. It is gathered into the collar. There is a curving shape for the shoulders and there st of the cape is fairly straight.
SIZE: No size label. The cape is a one-size-fits-many, including me, a modern size 12. Measurements taken with front edges approximated.

FABRIC/COLORS: Deep black velvet. It feels cottony to the touch, but fiber burn tests says it is silk. The flowers that form the collar are backed with silver lamé. The lining of the cape is crepe backed satin in a pinkish shade of gray.
TAGS: No tags
CLOSURES: N/A - this is a clutch style cape.
CONDITION: Remarkably good condition overall. The velvet has no stains, holes, tears or other issues. The lining is also without noted problem. The lamé backing of the flower collars has a darkened patina, and there has been some minor fray at the edges in 3 or 4 places. I have hand stitched them to stabilize and prevent further fraying.#1 shows the largest fray area after hand-stitching. #2 and #3 are front and back examples of two others. A new owner might want to carefully add some Fray-Stop.
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
