Strapless Net Full Skirt Lilac Prom Dress Shelf Bust Party Cupcake 50s Vintage Small VFG

A wonderful froth of a dress, and not super tiny, as so many of these are! The strapless bodice is boned, and features a true shelf bust - the inner layer uses horizontally ruched net over the boning, and the outer layer sits a little below the net in an enticing way, enhanced by dozens of prongset rhinestones. The full net skirt adds a cascading swag of net at the right side of the waist. The dress also has a matching piece of net that can be worn as a stole. I used a modest midi-length crinoline for photos - it is not included with purchase.

SIZE: No size label. When it comes to boned strapless dresses like this, the most important measurement is the waist - if that stays in place, the bodice will also stay in place.

FABRIC/COLORS: Iridescent taffeta, in a soft shade of lilac pink. The nylon net used for the shelf bust and the overskirt is a more vibrant shade of lilac.

TAGS: No tags at all.

CLOSURES: A metal zipper down the sideseam.

CONDITION: There is subtle grayish discoloration to the lower bodice along the right sideseam just above the waist - see closeup. It may have something to do with the metal used for the prongset rhinestones, as they have left similar marks inside the bodice - see closeup, not seen when worn. I found two tears in the net skirt, one at the hem, and the other a three-point tear a little below the swag on the right upper skirt. I have hand stitched them back in place see before and afters. It is possible that I missed a smaller one or two - it is a lot of skirt!

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
