Edwardian Wool Cape Antique Unisex Coat 1900s Vintage Country Wear VFG
This is a simple cape, beautifully designed and made. Dating turns out to difficult, with very few clues in terms of design. My sense based on handling it is Edwardian, and a practical piece - perhaps intended for country life. There are eight gores, that provide a lot of volume at the bottom, and come together at the top via stitched down inverted pleats. The cape has a self-fabric rolled collar. It is unlined, and all inner seams are hidden within twill tape.
SIZE: No size label. Being a cape, it is One Size Fits Most. I am 5'7" and wear a modern size 12 - the cape is a good fit except a little long.

FABRIC/COLORS: Black twill, medium weight, feels like wool but all seams are closed, so I have nowhere to snip for a fiber burn test.
TAGS: No tags at all, and no sign of removed tags or insignia.
CLOSURES: There is a pair of non-functional black buttons at the neck - underneath is a heavy hook & eye. the front of the cape is hangs loose are can be clutch style.
CONDITION: Excellent. No stains, holes, tears or other issues noted.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
