Edwardian Men's Velvet Smoking Jacket Midnight Blue Satin Trim Antique Flawed As Is VFG
There is something so elegant and luxurious about this men's lounging jacket. It begs for a snifter of brandy in the wearer's hand! The jacket is straight cut, has slightly padded shoulders, and a modest shawl collar. The collar, placket, and bottom are edged in channel stitched black satin trim. There are three slit pockets, one left upper chest and two hand warmer, each set off by a chevron of the same trim, also used near the cuffs.

FABRIC/COLORS: Midnight blue velvet - I believe it is cotton velvet, but I don't have access to a snippet for fiber burn test. It feels softer and more luxurious than velveteen to me. The body of the jacket is fully lined in heavy weight black matte satin, while the sleeves are lined in lighter weight black sateen.

CLOSURES: Two sets of intricately braided black frogs that meet in the middle with a loop and small braided knot.
CONDITION: There is a 2" fabric tear at the right rear shoulder at the junction between the collar and the angled shoulder seam there. It is covered by the collar but should be stabilized so it doesn't extend further. There is wear to the surface of the satin trim in some areas, showing a dark brown fabric base beneath. The closeup shows one of the most worn areas, at the lower of the two sets of frog closures - you can see the surface wear to the braid used for the frogs as well, although its underlying fabric is darkish purple. The overall effect looks like a sort of dark patina to me, but it may not be to everyone's taste. There are a few tiny divots in the nap of the velvet pile - see closeup. No other tears, no odors, no other issues noted
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
