60s Day Dress Deadstock Vintage NOS Turquoise Argyle Tapa Patchwork Print XL Smartsetter VFG
This vintage 1960s day dress is plus sized, and new old stock, in a cute scooter style and a bold confident print. The dress is gently fitted with princess seaming in front and vertical darts in back. The sheath style has the illusion of a dropped waist, with large patch pockets below the waist level, and a pair of inverted pleats in front for easy walking.
SIZE: Labeled size 22 1/2.

FABRIC/COLORS: The print uses rich shades of turquoise, pine green and brown, along with white, black, and a bit of periwinkle for a complex argyle print with stylized floral elements, geometric designs, and plenty of small eccentric polka dots. It reminds me of tapa or Maori designs. The fabric is medium weight, and feels substantial. Hang tag identifies fabric as 100% cotton - "a well mannered fine cotton with famous "Good conduct" finish. Fully Crease Resistant, Mercerized, Residual Shrinkage 2-3%".
TAGS: Smartsetter Original. Hang tag gives information about fabric origin as Wamsutta Mills, New York, N.Y.
CLOSURES: The dress opens all the way down the front, with 9 smooth shiny domed plastic buttons down the front.
CONDITION: This is New Old Stock, never worn and with tags still attached, including an original price tag of $19.95, marked down to $17.95. No storage issues noted.
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
