50s Women's Dress Vintage New Look Cocktail Party Full Skirt Taffeta Small to Medium Young Hollywood VFG

$ 90.00 Sale Save

This early 1950s vintage dress is perfect for an evening out, whether the event is cocktails or dancing! It is a look that is modest and feminine, yet sassy, with its ultra full tiered skirt made of crisp swishy taffeta. The flocked taffeta bodice has lightly padded shoulders and is closely fitted, with cap sleeves and a narrow self-fabric ruffle at the high neckline and sleeve edge. A row of small fabric covered buttons adds a charming touch down the front. The full gathered skirt is ruffled and tiered, with alternating bands of plain and flocked taffeta, with the bottom deepest tier being plain. The dress is shown with a crinoline underneath for inspiration - it is not included with purchase. In one photo, a black fabric belt was used, also not included.

FABRIC/COLORS: Crisp black taffeta/faille, medium weight. Some sections of the fabric have decorative black flocking in a delicate pattern imitating eyelet lace.

TAGS: Young Hollywood, Junior Originals

CLOSURES: The main way in and out of the dress is with an inset side seam metal zipper. The row of tiny buttons on the bodice front are decorative only - the bottom 7" is sewn shut and the top closes with 3 snaps.

CONDITION: A lot of the flocking has worn off the surface of the fabric, particularly on the bodice, leaving a ghost image of the pattern with small velvety flecks here and there - see closeup. No other issues noted - no stains, holes or tears.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
