These sharp vintage suits are so hard to come by anymore, especially in a larger size. The jacket has great detailing - padded shoulders, sharp wide lapels, bound chest and handwarmer pockets. It is double breasted, no back vent. It has the partial lining typical for that era. The pants are wide legged, cuffed, and were originally pleated front - they were altered at the waist by the former owner - details in the Condition Report and closeup photos. They are still quite wearable. The price reflects the great condition of the jacket along with being a very wearable size.

FABRIC/COLORS: Grayish blue wool suiting that has a slightly heathered appearance due to using two shades for warp and weft. There is a subtle large-scale windowpane plaid of a slightly lighter shade of blue. The jacket lining is dark blue satin, with white satin to line the sleeves. The pants are faced with unbleached twill and satin.

TAGS: Yost Bros., California. I did not find any of the usual union tags inside the coat pockets. Yost Brothers was a men's department store in Stockton, California.

CLOSURES: The jacket has six outer buttons with two of them functional, along with an inside button to maintain proper positioning. The sleeve cuffs each have three smaller matching buttons at the cuff, not functional. The pants fasten at the waist with two Dot Snappers, and a metal Talon zipper.

CONDITION: The former owner's waist must have expanded to the point where the pants were not fitting comfortably. His solution was to split open the waistband  above the front pleats so they could open the pleats, enlarging the waist. The horror!! Photo closeup shows the front waistband now, with 3" wide gaps on either side of the front. But they are wearable, and look great the rest of the way down. If you need the wide waist, the gaps can be covered by a belt. If you prefer the original, with pleated front and a smaller waist, you will have alterations to do. The unbleached muslin facing has spotty discoloration in the crotch area of the pants.
The jacket is in very good condition. There is a bit of grime at the back of the neck, and a single pinhole on the right side of the back - see closeups. A former owner removed a 1 x 2.25" piece of suit fabric from the inside right nest to the lining for unknown reasons, and replaced it with a black fabric patch - see closeup.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
