DETAILS: What a fabulous spring suit, vintage 1960s, and high end Mod! The detailing is exquisite and the colors are smile inducing.
The jacket is narrowly double breasted - just 4.25" of overlap, adding some structure without bulk. The top stitched seaming in front uses a curving line that mimics a yoke before reversing the curve into princess seaming for the bust. A demure bermuda collar and flapped hand warmer pockets set the look off. The jacket has thread sideseam belt loops, so the waist can be cinched with the self fabric belt or worn without the belt.
The straight skirt is styled with a Hollywood waist, i.e., fitted with darting and finished with facing instead of a waistband. In this case, the facing is wide sturdy elastic, allowing a bit of give.
Both the jacket and skirt are fully lined.

SIZE: No size label. The skirt measurement reflects the stretch allowed by the elastic facing.

FABRIC/COLORS: The fabric is wonderful - a very loose weave mohair with a boucle-like curl on the surface of a closer weave homespun underneath. The mohair is woven in a windowpane plaid pattern, using equal amount of cream and ombre of light orange to blood orange/red. The underfabric is pale yellow. The lining is cream colored rayon crepe.

TAGS: No maker's tag, but the skirt does have an Canadian ILGWU "Etiquette Syndicale" tag that was used from 1968 to 1984.

CLOSURES: The jacket closes with three pairs of chunky plastic buttons that are a delicious marbled swirl of Dreamsicle orange with raspberry and white. The two pocket flaps are accented by smaller versions of the same buttons. Buttonholes are bound, as befits this well-made set. The skirt closes with a side seam nylon zipper.

CONDITION: There are a few small stains to the skirt lining at and near the waist - nothing on the actual fabric, and not seen during wear. Also some lining discoloration at the back of the right armhole seam - again, no problem with the fabric and no odor. No other issues noted.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
