30s 40s Robe Spectacular Art Deco Print Men's Vintage Dressing Gown Brown Orange Yellow VFG
This 1930s to early 40s vintage dressing gown is one of my all time favorites. It has the classic styling, with shawl collar, wrap front, and self fabric sash. There are three patch pockets, one on the left chest and the other two are handwarmers. The sturdy fabric and killer print set it apart from all the satin brocade robes out there.
SIZE: No size label
Measurements taken with robe laying flat with front overlap 4.5" (11.5 cm)
|Chest, at armpit level||48"||122|
FABRIC/COLORS: The fabric is faille, medium to heavy weight, with a somewhat crisp yet silky feel. I love the print, which seems very Deco or Art Moderne to me, with its bold pattern of wavery concentric circles in rust red and goldenrod against a warm brown background, with a little cream for accent.
TAGS: No maker's tag
CLOSURES: N/A, the robe has a wrap front and sash.
CONDITION: You may want to have the robe dry cleaned before wear - the colors are a bit dull on the inner collar - see first closeup. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a trustworthy dry cleaner. On my third inspection, I also noticed two small light brown stains near the inner lower left handwarmer pocket - see closeups 2 and 3. The nature of the print makes it hard to see, but it darkens the cream color in that area. No other issues noted.
