40s Vintage Women's Swing Jacket Coat Black Satin Dramatic Sleeves Large to Extra Large VFG

This vintage 1940s satin swing jacket was originally designed to go with eveningwear, but a modern girl is just as likely to toss it on over jeans or club clothes! The cut is swingy, set off by moderately padded shoulders and a narrow shawl collar. The upper sleeves are kimono style with underarm gussets - a little below the elbow, the sleeves are pieced in a way that creates a strong horizontal line that is repeated on the body of the jacket. The lower sleeves narrow to the wrist, creating a barrel sleeve. The horizontal line piecing continues around the entire body of the jacket - there are deep vertical notches on both sides of the front with handwarmer pockets nestled inside. The jacket is fully lined in a high quality crepe - it is hand set, and interestingly, also pieced at the same horizontal line and stitched down to the outer fabric there.

FABRIC/COLORS: Thick black duchess weight satin, dull surface (ie, not super shiny) most likely rayon, based on a fiber burn test. The jacket is lined in medium weight crepe, also black.

TAGS: No tags at all.

CLOSURES: N/A, the coat is clutch style, i.e.; intended to be hang a little open in front unless the wearer "clutches" it closed.

CONDITION: I have hand repaired a few small areas of open seam. On close inspection, I find a few small scattered "scuffs" to the surface of the satin. Also, if you look closely, there is evidence that this was made from another older garment - some old machine stitching lines along the front shoulder area and the back of the sleeves near the wrists. No stains to speak of, no holes, and very wearable.
