Vintage hat display stands were most often used in a millinery shop or department store, but some might have sat in a lady's dressing room  showing off a special hat. This hat stand has the look of an earlier piece, probably 20s vintage. It may have been hand made as opposed to commercially produced. It is wooden, painted a dark green except for the legs of the base. The two "knobs" are the same size - the bottom one has four narrow wooden dowels added to provide balance so it can be the base. Both knobs have primitive painted flowers.

Size:

Standing on flat surface - 9.5" tall (24 cm)
Diameter of base - 1.75" (4.5 cm)
Diameter of base with legs - 4.75" (12 cm)
Diameter of knob - 1.75" (4.5 cm)

Condition: Sturdy but shabby in a charming chic sort of way. Paint has flaked off here and there - see closeups for most obvious areas. Stand feels sturdy despite the delicate look.

I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.

For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.

For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.

Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.

The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.

If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
