30s 40s Vintage Winter Jacket Women's Ski Sport Deco Geometric Trim M/L Apolda New York VFG Cravenette
Sportswear from this era is so hard to find, especially in a larger size! The jacket is designed for a slim fit, with a large pointed collar and raglan sleeves. The front of the jacket is enhanced with curving inset braid in a simple geometric pattern of vertical diamonds - it reminds me a bit of argyle. The sleeves end in deep ribknit cuffs that can be folded to customize the length - the cuffs are edged in dark red, echoing the color of the braid. The jacket has self-fabric belt loops at the sideseams - I showed it with a red leather belt in a few of the photos. The belt is from my own closet and not included with purchase.
SIZE: No size label. I wear a modern size 12, and the jacket is a comfortable fit.

FABRIC/COLORS: Dense wool jersey knit, in dark navy blue. Trim is also knit with a looser weave, done in dark blue and dark red
TAGS: Apolda, New York. A separate tag, says Cravenette Processed, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off., Snowproof.
CLOSURES: A heavy duty Talon zipper with a deco style zipper pull. There is a self-fabric tab that buttons under the collar on both sides to protect your neck on those very cold days.
CONDITION: The jackets has sunfading across both shoulders that extends up onto the collar and down the upper surface of both sleeves, as well as the knit cuffs. The center front and back of the jacket are more lightly faded. I see three small frays to the braid near the bottom of the jacket - see photo of largest one, which is on the right as you face the jacket. I see one pinhole in the back of the right sleeve a little above the elbow - see closeup. There are two small holes in the ribknit of the left cuff and one on the right - the closeup of the left cuff shows them from the inside, while the right cuff is exterior and folded.
I measure the outside of garments, unless stated otherwise.
For menswear, the chest is measured at armpit level.
For womenswear, the bust is measured a little below armpit level, including the room created by darts or gathers.
Waist will be measured if there is one, and hips are measured about 9" below waist level. Sleeves are measured from shoulder seam or an approximation in the absence of a shoulder seam. Garment length is measured from the back of the neck, unless otherwise stated.
The measurement numbers refer to the garment, not the body inside. For best fit, measure a similar type of garment which fits you well and compare.
If the garment is shown on Josephine, my mannequin, her measurements are 31/24.5/34". Sometimes she wears a padded bra. My live models measurements vary depending on the day and year, and I don't ask them to share that.
