30s 40s Vintage Women's Dress Feminine Floral Print Crepe Medium VFG
- Description
A beautiful 30s dress that was re-imagined by a long ago owner. I haven't been able to completely figure out the original structure of this dress. I'm guessing it was probably a sleeveless evening gown. The bodice is original and structured with circular "yokes" around the arm holes- see photos of bodice outside and in. The yokes are edged with a very narrow band of dark blue crepe (not the same fabric used for the bottom of the skirt). The upper bodice is lined in soft net for support, that looks original too, and the net looks like it was cut off at the bottom during the alterations. The short sleeves look like they may have been added later, especially since there is a curved inset pieced in at the shoulderline. There is also an inset section at the waistline about 1" wide. And the 5" band of coordinating dark blue crepe at the bottom hem was clearly a later addition. I've included extensive photos that hopefully help you visualize the details I'm describing.

FABRIC/COLORS: Rayon crepe in a gorgeous floral print, using shades of red, pink, purple and white with yellow and green accents against a dark blue background. Accent fabric is slightly heavier, dark blue satin backed crepe.
TAGS: No tags at all, although looks like the original dress was professionally made.
CLOSURES: A Rapid brand metal zipper handset in the side seam. A single set of small snaps above the zipper, and I am guessing that the dress originally closed with a row of sideseam snaps. There are six small satin covered buttons at the back of the neck that close with cord loops.
CONDITION: Hard to assign a standard condition rating. No stains, holes or tears seen. Very good condition in that way, but as-found in terms of the significant but long-ago alterations.
